Dr. Cleveland’s Community
Over the years I’ve had the good fortune of working with many remarkable people and organizations helping to build awareness of healthy lifestyles, active living, and sports participation in Oregon and around the country. I encourage you to visit their websites to see how you might volunteer, donate time or resources, or connect with like-minded people in your community!
American Heart Association Heart disease is the #1 killer of American men and women. The AHA is the excellent non-profit that addresses this public health challenge by funding life-saving research, teaching CPR, sponsoring youth programs, and advocating for sound public health policy. The AHA in Oregon was a leading member of our PEAK Coalition (Physical Education for All Kids) to increase access to physical education in Oregon. No wonder I have volunteered for over 35 years.
Legacy Health A regional health system serving Oregon and SW Washington, Legacy Health includes seven hospitals and nearly 100 clinics. Its mission statement is the only one I have ever memorized — it’s short and I believe in it: Our legacy is good health for our people, our patients, our communities and our world. In more than 30 years with Legacy, I’ve had many roles: emergency medicine physician, medical director, donor, expectant father, and patient. Legacy Health has 12 therapeutic gardens for patients, families, and employees—the most of any U.S. medical center.
Oregon Golf Association The Oregon Golf Association (OGA) is a 501(c)(6) non-profit membership association. Founded in 1924, the OGA just celebrated its centennial anniversary. It promotes the game of golf through benefits and services for over 50,000 individual members and 300 golf clubs throughout Oregon and SW Washington. The OGA increases access to golf through its Youth on Course program. It subsidizes green fees for youth golfers so they can play a round of golf at 69 public courses for only $5!
